Governor Matt Blunt
declares April as Jazz Appreciation Month in Missouri.
This coincides with National JAM!
National
Jazz Appreciation Month!
Please support the
many concerts and jazz related events this month.
Thanks to Randy Hamm at Missouri State University for
coordinating the proclamation request.
Dear Missouri IAJE Members,
Many of you have probably been
following the breaking IAJE news. If not, please see
the link below. Although this is certainly not good
news, we will continue to function as a state unit. The
Missouri unit is in good shape. We had an excellent
MMEA conference again this year, with several
outstanding clinics by James Drier, Bob Long, and the
ASJ conductor, Michael Philip Mossman. We have an
updated constitution as well as tax exempt status. We
have a great board made up of people who are willing to
work hard for jazz education in Missouri.
The board will meet soon to discuss
how to proceed. We will need to have state dues in
order to function. They will be lower than the past
IAJE dues, but all the money will go to MAJE (if
that is what we decide to call ourselves, which is
another item for the board to discuss). Hopefully lower
dues will encourage EVERY jazz music educator
in the state to join us. We can come through this
crisis as a stronger state organization, and there is no
reason to think that we will not do so. But we will
need the support of our membership.
